Zajtrk is a singer-songwriter ethno-chanson ensemble known for its witty, socially critical, and mischievous approach to making music. The members are Laura Krajnc (violin, vocals, tambourine) and Sven Horvat (guitar, vocals), joined by their close friends and remarkable artist Ana Lazar (violin), Matija Solce (accordion) and Neža Pavlovič (bass). Zajtrk draws on fairy tales, myths, folk narratives, humorous anecdotes, theatre, and other unruly impulses, all of which find their way into the band’s music. The ensemble is committed to working in the Slovenian language, maintaining artistic autonomy, a sharp sense of humor, and weaving folk elements into its sound. Their songs reflect a deep curiosity about the human condition and human nature and his/hers/their comic, rebellious, confused, tragic, unhappy, and joyful states. The group’s newer compositions explore more existential and vulnerable dimensions of being human, intertwined with the spirit of ancient myths and stories, revealing a fragile core wrapped in a deliberately pompous shell.
