Balklavalhau was born as the result of a group of people from various corners of the world who started meeting regularly during 2020 at an old tavern in Porto, Portugal, sharing their knowledge and passion for Balkan, Turkish & Middle Eastern musical heritage. After realizing how well they understood each other within these languages, they decided to develop themselves further as a band. Henceforth, they started working their own original compositions as well, mostly based upon Balkan traditional music, but also bringing the folk heritage from their own & others, such as flamenco, chilean cueca, slavic polyphonies, gipsy jazz, etc. So far, the band has toured Poland, Portugal, Spain and Belgium, being also present with delegates at Balkan:Most, Budapest Ritmo, PIN Conference, Fira de Manresa, MMVV and other important music industry meetings. Their upcoming summer tour will bring them to Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia & Cyprus during July/August 2025.
